Implementing an IoT platform

Implementing an IoT platform

To hold on to its market-leading position, our client wanted to make use of connected objects to reinvent itself, but also, above all, to set itself apart in the fiercely competitive sector that is Insurance. It has introduced connected care services, vehicles and buildings.
Our mission has been to support this “revolution in usage practices” while managing the technical complexity involved, in order to enable our client to remain focused on its business!

Background

Seen as a disruptive innovation by Insurance sector players, connected objects can, if properly implemented, contribute to a better appreciation and control of risks. As well as assessing the original sources of risks (driving habits, vehicle maintenance, fire, disease prevention, etc.), IoT is revolutionising customer relations by offering near-constant contact with policyholders to provide an individualised and appropriate response to their behaviour.

Objectives

Develop new real-time services to improve customer knowledge and limit risk due to more precise segmentation of profiles, all in a context of continuous improvement (test and learn) and controlled costs and Time to Market. The first three major projects concerned home care for the elderly (connected care services), risk prevention, adaptation of insurance contracts (connected vehicles) and augmented remote surveillance, intruder alerts, and fire detection (connected industrial buildings).

Methodology

  • Establishment of a transparent governance structure
  • Product management (UX and PO)
  • Design, construction and implementation of cloud architecture: prototype, development
  • Analysis of cybersecurity risks
  • Development of two-sided business models
  • Operation on an extended enterprise basis with partners

Deliverables

  • Implementation and go-live of cloud platform for management of real-time data from connected objects
  • Training of teams
  • Application for real-time data management and storage in a datalake
  • Development of services accessible via API
  • Creation of a space dedicated to datascience and prototype creation
  • Enhancement of platform security
