Devising and implementing a Data strategy

Being a bank fit for today’s changing world means being aware of changes in the environment. New entrants have created new standards, and banks are facing the challenge of remaining attractive in the light of changing customer expectations and usage practices.

Our client’s central challenge was therefore to answer the question: how do we move from a classic BI approach, with decision-making systems divided up by business function, to a data-centric model providing a 360° view of the customer, and what use could be made of new market tools?

Objectives

Support the Trade Finance department in designing a data strategy consistent with the bank’s overall vision, in order to set up an application centralising the different sources of data and offering users (operational staff, customer advisers, managers, etc.) the possibility of conducting advanced in-depth analyses using the best tools on the market.

 

Methodology

  • Identification of use cases
  • Coordination and holding of project scoping committees to establish the requirements and the business process
  • Preparation of roadmap and costing
  • Presentation of the project to the Data Owner, the security team and the architects
  • Organisation of architecture committee meetings
  • Identification and specification of data sources
  • Onboarding of data sources on the CIB Datahub (Hadoop platform)
  • Design of dashboards with end-users
  • Coordination and tracking of developments

  • Audit of the existing decision-making system
  • Data dictionary
  • Detailed schedule of projects in progress
  • Detailed costing by stream and by contributor
  • Medium- and long-term roadmap
  • Functional and technical architecture diagram
